The Scalp Reset & Nourish Routine
A DR. ZAHRAH CLINICAL GUIDE
Disclaimer: This guide is for educational purposes only. Consult your own doctor for personal medical advice and check product instructions for specific directions according to the products.
1. Section and Apply
PRE WASH (DRY SCALP)
Before getting in the shower, part your hair into small sections. Apply the acid treatment (BHA or AHA) directly to the scalp. Applying it to dry skin ensures the water in the shower does not dilute the acid's pH before it has time to work.
2. The Finger Pad Massage
1 MINUTE
Gently massage the product in using the pads of your fingers. Remember: no fingernails and no hard scrubbing! You are just distributing the liquid evenly, not physically scraping the skin barrier.
3. The Activation Window
10 TO 15 MINUTES
Let the acid sit and do the chemical heavy lifting. It needs this time to unglue the dead cells and dissolve the stubborn lipophilic SPF sebum mixture without mechanical force. Apply according to product instructions as it can vary.
4. Wash and Rinse
IN THE SHOWER
Rinse thoroughly, then follow up with your normal shampoo and conditioner. Because the acid has dissolved the barrier, your shampoo will actually lather better and clean the root much more effectively.
5. Nourish the Clean Canvas
POST WASH
Your scalp is now entirely clear, but do not apply active oils directly to the root today as the skin barrier is re equilibrating its pH. However, you can absolutely apply Dr. Zahrah's Elixir directly to the mid lengths and ends of your hair to deeply nourish the strands.
6. The Botanical Delivery
YOUR NEXT WASH DAY
On your next wash day, apply Dr. Zahrah's Elixir directly to the scalp as a pre wash treatment. Because you chemically cleared the occlusive SPF barrier on your previous wash day, your follicular pathways are entirely uninhibited. The purely botanical actives can now penetrate deeply into the scalp without obstruction, delivering maximum clinical results.
Clinical FAQs: Frequency & Minoxidil
How often should you exfoliate the scalp?
1 to 2 times a week, maximum.
Treat your scalp like the skin on your face. Once a week is perfect for maintenance and removing SPF buildup. If you have an excessively oily scalp, you can push it to twice a week. Exfoliating any more than that will damage the stratum corneum, leading to a compromised barrier, inflammation, and paradoxical oil production (where the scalp overproduces sebum to compensate for being stripped).
Can you use Minoxidil on the same day as a chemical exfoliant?
Proceed with extreme caution, or skip it.
Minoxidil solutions typically contain high amounts of alcohol and propylene glycol to aid absorption. If you apply Minoxidil to a freshly exfoliated scalp:
- It will likely sting or burn because the acid has just lowered the skin's pH and removed the dead cell barrier.
- The chemical exfoliation significantly increases the absorption rate of the Minoxidil, which can increase the risk of systemic side effects (like heart palpitations or dizziness) and severe contact dermatitis.
The safest approach: Apply Minoxidil on your non exfoliating days. If you must use it daily for hair loss protocols, ensure the scalp is 100% bone dry before applying it after an acid wash, and monitor closely for irritation.
